Categorically Tag Me

A built in feature of all blog tools including Word Press is tagging. As you author each post, you have the option to apply a tag.

A tag is a word or set of words that are used to describe your post. Often, bloggers apply tags that they think the masses will type in to Google.

  • Example: A post about the best chocolate chip cookie recipe could have the following tags: cookies, chocolate, baking, recipes, bake at home, best cookie recipes, chocolate chips

In addition to tags, blog tools ofter category functions that serve as “folders,” allowing you to clump like posts together.

  • Example: A post about the best chocolate chip cookie recipe could be filled away in the following categories: recipes, desserts, cookies

There are benefits and drawbacks to both.  It all depends on what goals you have envisioned for your blog. Check out Adding Tags to WordPress, Should you Add Tags?  by SEO Inc. to learn more.
