Texting: A Kid’s Friend or Foe?

In class we started talking about some real world issues around technology replacing face to face communications, tech savvy kids, and loss of privacy. Yesterday I came across an article that ran in a Welch UK paper 3 years ago, addressing concerns that texting might be damaging to a child’s mastery of spelling and punctuation.

The article elaborates on a Welch linguist Professor’s belief that children are actually getting much needed language practice by texting. “Literacy is about the ability to read and write and the more practice you get at it, the better you become.”
